The Barefield College of Arts & Sciences Leadership Board selected three new Faculty Fellows for 2026-2029. Dr. Richard Newton, Dr. Enrijeta Shino and Dr. Changzhen Wang will join the other six members as BCAS Leadership Board Faculty Fellows.
The Barefield College of Arts & Sciences Leadership Board Faculty Fellowships recognize the College’s most promising or most accomplished teacher/scholars, individuals early in their careers who demonstrate exceptional promise or faculty members who have brought distinction to the College and University throughout their careers.
The Leadership Board contributes $45,000 annually to support nine faculty fellows (three from the arts and humanities, three from the natural sciences and mathematics, and three from the social sciences). Three fellows are selected each year (one from each division) for a three-year term.
Dr. Richard Newton
Department of Religious Studies
Associate Professor and Undergraduate Director
Dr. Newton’s areas of interests include theory and method in the study of religion, African American history, the New Testament in Western imagination, American cultural politics and pedagogy in religious studies.
Dr. Enrijeta Shino
Department of Political Science
Assistant Professor
Dr. Shino studies elections, voting behavior, public opinion and political methodology.
Dr. Changzhen Wang
Department of Geography & the Environment
Assistant Professor
Dr. Wang’s research areas include geographic information science, health geography, geospatial cancer research, spatial network modeling and analysis, geovisualization and cartography, WebGIS, transportation.
